FROM FRAME TO FINISH

Every Chikankari article is Made Slowly, the way Lucknowi Karigars have done it for generations.

This isn’t print pretending to be embroidery. It’s real thread embroidery, stitched by hand with block printing done by a wooden frame — which is exactly why it takes weeks, not minutes, to make one piece.

Block printing

The motif is hand-printed with washable blue ink as a guide for the artisan with the help of wooden blocks.

Hand Embroidery

Karigars stitch each motif on a frame — the slowest, most skilled stage.

Mukaish/Beads & Sequins

Fine metallic work is twisted in by hand for a subtle, festive shimmer or beads, sequins and Katdana added to embellish the Chikankari.

Wash and Finish

The guide ink is washed out, revealing only white thread with add-ons remains.
